IOM conducted a gate traffic monitoring exercise for 6 days at the entry and exit points of the Cathedral. The objective of the exercise is to understand the involved counting the number of people who enter and exit the collective center between the 7:00 and 18:00. Figures below are not indicative of the number of new arrivals or number of people who have permanently left the Cathedral, as the count targets everyone who moves in and out of the site. As such, the exercise will inevitably double count people who frequently move.
A general declining trend was captured for movement in and out of the Cathedral counts has also been observed for movements into and out of the Cathedral. During the reporting period, there was an average of 4,825 persons entering the camp in a day and 3,139 persons leaving the camp in the day. Overall, there is a net of approximately 1,600 persons recorded entering the Cathedral in a day.
During the report period, influx into the Cathedral peaked on 10 July 2016 following shooting in the area of Nazareth, the southern part of Wau town. Overall, the trend for counts into the collective center have declined compared to last week, which may be attributed to the fact that many people have been able collect most of their personal belongings from their homes last week and therefore do not have to go back as frequently.
