Highlights
· Update on 15 trucks impounded in Yei. The trucks remain in Yei, detained there since 25 May. WFP continues its efforts to secure their return to Juba. A 16th truck was left in Mundri in the course of fighting there on 22 May because keys went missing. Authorities have given WFP permission to send a recovery mission to Mundri, which will take place this weekend.
· Arrival of WFP South Sudan’s new Deputy Country Director (Support Services). This week, Maria Bautista-Owen arrived in Juba to officially assume her role as the DCD of Support Services.
· WFP reaches more than 1.3 million people in the month of May. Under its Emergency Operation (EMOP), WFP reached about 518,000 people with a emergency unconditional food distributions and nutritional support. Through its Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation (PRRO), WFP served over 784,000 people through a combination of unconditional and conditional food distributions and supplementary nutrition feeding.
· SCOPE launch next week in Mingkaman. On 15 June, WFP will be launching its SCOPE e-vouchers in Mingkaman. Assistance through vouchers allows beneficiaries greater choice, helps stimulate markets and relieves the demand for in-kind food, ensuring that locations without reliable markets can be prioritized. The e-vouchers, which are biometrically protected and safer than paper vouchers, will be distributed to more than 15,000 households (over 70,000 people). · Resilience Context Analysis workshop in Juba next week. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Rural Development and Cooperatives, a consultative technical workshop on South Sudan’s Resilience Context Analysis will be held in Juba, 16-17 June. Agencies including WFP, FAO, UNICEF, OCHA, UNDP, UN Women and WHO as well as international institutions, the World Bank and FEWSNET will collaborate in the comprehensive discussions aimed at creating a common understanding of resilience to specific outcomes in country. This will be a critical base on which to build effective partnerships and a framework from which resilience-enhancing operations can be designed in a more cohesive, systematic and strategic manner, based on strong evidence based programming.
