Monthly Operation Overview - July 2015

The Logistics Cluster is responsible for providing logistics coordination, information management and, where there is a gap in logistics infrastructure, WFP, as lead-agency of the Logistics Cluster, acts as a ‘Provider of Last Resort’ by offering common logistics services to support the humanitarian community in their response operations.

Highlights of the Operation

  • In July, the Logistics Cluster airlifted 229 mt of humanitarian supplies on behalf of 19 organisations to 24 destinations.

  • The Logistics Cluster facilitated the airlift of 5 mt of ‘survival kits’ on behalf of the humanitarian community, to areas in the Unity state, cut off from aid due to insecurity.

  • Logistics Cluster air fleet currently consists of three Mi8 helicopters, a fixed-wing plane, and it is supported by adhoc rotations from a WFP-loaned Mi26 helicopter.

  • The loaded barge bound for Malakal has remained in Bor since the beginning of July. Its departure is pending access to the river being granted.
