South Sudan: South Sudan Crisis IOM Regional Response, Situation Report - July 2015

Highlights

  • ETHIOPIA: In July, IOM relocated a total of 8,058 refugees; 6,083 in Gambella and 1,975 in BenishangulGumuz Region.

  • KENYA: Discussions are ongoing between IOM and UNHCR on the future of jointly moving refugees from the Nadapal border point to Kakuma Refugee Camp.

  • SUDAN: IOM has tracked displacement and has registered 80,120 people as of 26 July.

Situation Overview
Approximately 1.6 million people remain internally displaced within South Sudan, including many who are seeking shelter in remote rural areas, and another 160,400 people sheltering in Protection of Civilian sites (PoCs) in UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) bases across the country. As of 22 July, 622,122 South Sudanese refugees have fled to neighbouring countries, including to Kenya (46,314), Ethiopia (218,026),
Sudan (198,657), and Uganda (159,125) (Source: UNHCR, 22 July 2015).
