IMPACT ON HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE
The total number of reported access incidents increased markedly to 134 reported cases in May (compared to 72 in April). This is partly caused by increased reporting through access surveys by UNOCHA and NGO Forum, but also linked to escalation in military offensives in Unity and Upper Nile, which severely impeded humanitarian operations and organizations’ ability to reach affected people. Two aid workers were killed during fighting in southern Unity in May. Humanitarian partners were forced to suspend most activities and to withdraw staff from larger parts of southern Unity and areas in Upper Nile (42 reported incidents, an increase from 34 in April). In addition, a high number of humanitarian assets, compounds and offices were looted, burned and damaged in the wake of this fighting (38 reported cases)
