Dear Media Colleagues,
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), invites you, to cover some of the events associated with the visit of the UN Security Council to the country from 2- 5 September 2016.
Whilst in the country, the Council members will take the opportunity to pay visits to UNMISS supervised, Protection of Civilian sites, in Juba and internally displaced person (IDPS) in Wau, on the 3rd and 4th September, respectively, to see for themselves, the humanitarian and security conditions prevailing, and engage with civil society organisations, community leaders, women and youth groups to obtain first hand perspectives on issues: the security situation, their needs, challenges, the impact of the conflict on communities, and get their views about next steps.
The delegation will meet with the President of South Sudan and Members of Government to discuss various issues related to the new mandate of UNMISS, safety and security, concerns over the issues affecting vulnerable groups, and the peace process in the country on the 3rd September 2016, (time to be confirmed).
There will also be a press conference at the close of the visit, on Sunday 4th September, to be addressed by the co-leads for the delegation, the Permanent representatives from the United States of America and Senegal, at 16.45 p.m at the Juba Conference Room, UN Compound, Thomping.
