Kigali July 16/2016 Prime Minister Hialemariam Dessalegn said Ethiopia will continue to support regional and global efforts towards peaceful resolution of the crisis in South Sudan.
Hailemariam made the remark while conferring with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today in Kigali, Rwanda. During the occasion Ban has requested the Premier to enhance support to ensure lasting peace in that country.
Saying the situation in South Sudan is critical, Hailemariam asserted the need to work closely with the two leaders.
The Premier explained to the Secretary General that Ethiopia, as chair of IGAD is working with neighboring countries to end the conflict.
Regarding Somalia, Hailemariam said his country is exerting maximum effort to help the nation hold a peaceful and democratic election.
He affirmed that the military intervention by AMISOM to weaken and uprooted Al-Shabaab will further continue, according to a high-level official who attended the meeting.
Secretary General Ban expressed his confidence that Ethiopia is and will continue to exert maximum effort to solve the crisis in South Sudan.
He also expressed hope that Ethiopia will enhance support to Somalia to make the upcoming election in that nation peaceful and democratic.
