In May, 78 access incidents were reported by humanitarian partners across the country, 73 per cent of which involved violence against humanitarian personnel and assets. The number of incidents reported was significantly higher than in April, when 48 incidents were reported, and also higher than the monthly average of 63 incidents reported from January to March. The majority of the incidents reported in May occurred in Central Equatoria, followed by Unity. The month saw a substantial rise in reported incidents in Eastern Equatoria, from 2 in April to 8 in May, and Western Bahr el Ghazal, from 1 in April to 7 in May. Three humanitarian workers were killed in May in Central and Eastern Equatoria, bringing the number of aid workers killed in South Sudan since the conflict began to 55.
