The government of the United Kingdom has announced a five year humanitarian plan for South Sudan.

The 2016-2020 strategy focuses on food security and providing live saving food to the people in need. It also involves programs to protect women from gender base violence.

It will be implemented by the UK- Department for intentional Develop (DFID).

Vicky Stanger, deputy head of DIFD in South Sudan is urging the incoming transitional government to allow free humanitarian access.

“Absolutely the government must invest and enable free and open movement of people and humanitarian responders and humanitarians assets,” she said.

Stanger says the UK government is working closely with humanitarian partners to reach people in need.

The UK has spent over £240mln in South Sudan in humanitarian assistance since the conflict broke out in December 2013.
