Addis Ababa April 22/04/2016 The effort to get released the children and women kidnapped by Murle gunmen from Gambella Region has gained momentum, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.
In his briefings to journalists today, Tewolde Mulugeta said the defense forces of Ethiopia have been intensified.
Currently, Government continues strengthening taking measures against perpetrators to dislodge and bring them to justice those militia fighters.
Responding to the question whether the gunmen had any backing from others, he said the government will investigate the matter and inform the public about any parties involved, if there are any. The crucial issue at hand is to rehabilitate the victims and get released the hostages taken.
Many countries and international organizations have stood by the side of Ethiopia during this sad time.
They have also expressed their support to the military operation underway, Tewolde stated.
In his response to the question concerning the migrants drowned, Tewolde said reports indicate that various citizens from different countries are among the drowned while crossing the Mediterranean.
According to Tewolde, the issue of identifying Ethiopians needs time to check, and the government of Ethiopia is working hard to investigate the matter and make the facts public.
