NEEDS ANALYSIS
IDPs in Protection of Civilian (PoC) areas of UN peacekeeping bases urgently require shelter reinforcements ahead of the rainy season. Rains have commenced in a few areas of the country as of April.
Some populations returning to areas they were displaced from and others settling in to new areas require basic shelter support to prepare for the rainy season.
New and significant caseloads of conflict IDPs have been generated in areas previously considered to be stable and more focused on development programs, such as Western Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria and parts of Jonglei.
Deepening and severe food insecurity has eroded the coping mechanisms of millions of people who are increasingly unable to access basic shelter and household items as their household resources narrow.
RESPONSE
This year, Cluster partners have served nearly 60,000 families with NFI and over 5,000 households with shelter support.
In PoC sites specifically, Partners are working around the clock to ensure that over 200,000 IDP residents are living in reinforced shelters for the heavy rainy season.
In the hardest to reach areas where insecurity prevents humanitarian access, such as Western Equatoria, the Cluster is providing multi-sectoral ‘survival kits’ that contain key life-saving items from Nutrition, WASH, FSL and NFI Clusters.
