In December of 2009, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) killed 321 people in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite the incredible scale and brutality of the violence, the international community did not learn of the massacre until March 2010—three months later.
This attack was the catalyst for Invisible Children and The Resolve: The LRA Crisis Initiative to partner in the creation of the LRA Crisis Tracker, which is a crisis-mapping social web platform that broadcasts attacks and other activities perpetrated by the LRA in near-real time.
Since 2011, the LRA Crisis Tracker has been a vital tool for policymakers, practitioners, and all those invested in seeing an end to the conflict by providing an unprecedented level of transparency to the atrocities of the LRA.
Today, we’re so excited to unveil the new-and-improved LRA Crisis Tracker website, which we’ve lovingly nicknamed the Crisis Tracker PRO.
What’s different? You now have access to new features and tools that will allow you to more effectively engage with and utilize data collected from Invisible Children’s Early Warning Radio Network and community partners. These features include advanced data filtering tools, robust graphing tools, a map specifically tracking Joseph Kony’s known movements, and much more.
Our goal was to create a tool with greater functionality to increase the ability of security forces, governments, and humanitarian organizations to more effectively deliver services, understand LRA activity, and work alongside communities to build toward lasting peace.
