The Logistics Cluster is responsible for providing logistics coordination, Information Management; and, where there is a gap in logistics infrastructure, WFP, as the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster, acts as a ‘Provider of Last Resort’ by offering common logistics services to support the humanitarian community in their response operations.
Highlights of the Operation
- During the month of December, the Logistics Cluster facilitated the airlift of 297 mt on behalf of 22 organisations to 24 destinations.
- In December, the Logistics Cluster supported high priority responses into Leer County, Unity State by facilitating the delivery of over 118 mt of life saving cargo.
- The Logistics Cluster barge docked in Bor on 7 December. Two barges (half a barge set) will be available for the Logistics Cluster for a return trip to Malakal; loading is expected to begin in mid-January. In 2016 the Logistics Cluster will work to improve barge transport to Malakal.
- Following the Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) defence this month, the CHF advisory board recommended for the Logistics Cluster to receive a total of US$ 6.1 million from the first round allocation in 2016. Projects to receive funding include those submitted by WFP (Logistics Cluster), WFP (UNHAS), and IOM.
- A specialised fixed wing aircraft was mobilised and is operational as of 8 January. This asset will be able to access locations only reachable with helicopters providing greater capacity.
