CHF SUPPORTS LIFE-SAVING ASSISTANCE - NEW CONTRIBUTIONS URGENTLY NEEDED
Funds allocated this year by the Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) are supporting life-saving assistance in South Sudan. So far in 2015 nearly US$86 million has been allocated to 171 projects, mostly in the conict-aected states of Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile. In the rst half of the year, some $62 million was allocated to 97 projects through the rst standard allocation and two reserve allocations. In August, an additional $24 million was allocated to 74 projects under the second standard allocation. Currently, funding through the CHF accounts for around 10 per cent of all funding secured for the 2015 Humanitarian Response Plan.
Funds provided through the CHF have improved nutrition and medical services, expanded access to clean water, latrines, and hygiene materials, and provided agricultural and veterinary inputs to people aected by conict. Over 781 metric tonnes of seeds have been procured and distributed to farmers, and 4,575 metric tonnes of humanitarian cargo transported to project locations. Support to establish and maintain humanitarian hubs has enabled aid agencies to continue operations in dicult circumstances. With continuing high levels of humanitarian need, new donor contributions to the CHF are urgently needed to ensure that those most at risk are assisted and protected.
