More than three thousand people have been displaced after clashes broke out in Kotigiri boma in Wonduruba Payam, in Lainya county Central Equatoria state.
The situation went out of hand last week when security forces clashed in Wonduruba county forcing many people to flee their homes.
The Bishop of Wonduruba diocese says the exodus started on Thursday when fighting broke out in Kotigiri boma and then spread to Mengele and then to Wonduruba.
Bishp Taban says the situation of more than 3,000 people displaced by the skirmishes last week remains dire. He told Radio Miraya that some people are still hiding in the bushes and many others are trying to make their way to Lainya county.
” We were hearing heavy bombardments. I think people got scared and then people took to the bushes and then from there those who managed to walked through the bushes they entered Lainya.” Bishop Taban explained.
Bishop Taban says the fleeing families has added up to the strain many other families are facing in Lainya county.
” Some of them have made to their friends families and their relatives. Now you find in a family there are over 50 people and then the big challenge is shelter and then coupled with the issue of food, so the situation is very dire actually.”
