Humanitarian access was mainly hampered by violence against humanitarian personnel and assets and active hostilities throughout the month of June. Indications are that the incidents have been caused by all parties to the conflict, with the majority occurring in Upper Nile, Central Equatoria and Unity States.
IMPACT ON HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE
The total number of reported access incidents decreased from 134 reported cases in May to 120 reported cases in June. This is still markedly higher than the average of 83 incidents per month over the last 6 months. This continues to be partly linked to military offensives in Unity and Upper Nile, which severely impeded humanitarian operations and organizations’ ability to reach affected populations. Humanitarian partners reported 25 incidents of suspend activities and withdrawal of staff from mainly these two states, but also the Bahr el Ghazals and Jonglei, because of active hostilities and insecurity. 5 humanitarian workers were killed in Unity, Lakes and Warrap in June, and another 59 incidents of violence against personnel and assets were reported.
