The weekly influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the UN Mission in South Sudan’s Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu, the capital of Unity State, continued to show a decreasing trend over the last two weeks though sporadic clashes between the Government and rebel forces were reported.

A total of 1,237 individuals arrived at the PoC between 29 August – 04 September 2015, a 43 per cent decrease from 2,155 new arrivals that had come in the week before, taking the overall population of the PoC to 117,669 individuals. Most of the new arrivals for this week are women, 56 per cent.

Movement Trend Tracking (MTT) data states that 59 per cent of new arrivals came to seek food (last week 64%). The current percentage is high and indicates that economic situation and food security continue to be a major push factor for movement.

Insecurity was cited as the second main cause of movement by the remaining 41 per cent of the new arrivals compared to 43 per cent who had attributed their displacement to security issues in the week before.

Koch County continued to be the leading place of origin of the new arrivals with 29 per cent individuals coming from there, followed by Leer with 27 per cent, Rubkona 25 per cent and Guit County contributing to 15 per cent of new arrivals. The remaining 5 per cent IDPs came from Mayendit, Mayom and Panyijiar Counties.
